Are you left or right brain dominant.

First take a look at the picture....

http://www.news.com.au/common/imagedata/0,,5675247,00.gif

is the girl spinning clockwise or anti-clockwise? clockwise = right brain dominant anti = left

LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses logic
detail oriented
facts rule
words and language
present and past
math and science
can comprehend knowing
acknowledges
order/pattern perception
knows object name
reality based
forms strategies
practical
safe

RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses feeling
''big picture'' oriented
imagination rules
symbols and images
present and future
philosophy & religion
can ''get it'' (i.e. meaning)
believes
appreciates
spatial perception
knows object function
fantasy based
presents possibilities
impetuous
risk taking

some people see it swap direction. other people have said they see it change depending on what part of the image you focus on.

what do you see?

Totally clockwise for me. I can see how it could be anti-clockwise, but I can't get my brain to see it (without concentrating so hard I get a migrane)....

for me it's mainly clockwise unless i've just answered someone's question and look back at it. One guy said if he focuses on feeling the left hand side of his brain he can get it to switch.

Cute :) I initially saw it going clockwise, then re-loaded it and saw it anti-clockwise. Then I discovered that if you focused on the shadow of the foot on the ground you could get it to change directions (the whole image not just the shadow).

I wonder about the left/right brain thing though. We're all kinda contioned to see things going from left to right (books, roundabouts, hell even clocks) and as such I reckon you'd get a big clockwise bias in your results.

Nice visual effect though.

that's interesting, the whole left to right thing. Would be interesting to see if there's a right left bias in cultures who read from right to left.

I can only see it clockwise. Trying to see it anti-clockwise doesn't work - I can't manage to conceive of it as anything else.

i was like that but then someone asked me a question and I looked back and it was going the other way.

totally clockwise and any one who reckons it goes the other is full of it!

I tried looking away, squinting, being logical, "feeeling" the left brain etc..

clockwise it is..

okay. that's interesting.

Yeah i think that list is very simplified. Language is usually on the left side though although some parts of words are definitely right brained where they relate to symbology and colours. For me it only changes if someone asks me a question and I respond by talking out loud.

I know a lot of abstract maths is very right brained. Analytical stuff can be right brained. When i'm analysing a system i build 3-D models of it in my head.

Given how "feeling" oriented I am, I'm really surprised that I get this totally anto clocwise, cannot make it work the other way at all. Might try it when I ahven't been at work all day too. Because a lot more of the Right brain functions seem to apply to me.

And get home after I've been reading and out of the workplace... and it's clockwise... And a much smoother circle too..

I don't get the look at the feet and it changes direction thing, but I do get the weirdness of if I look at the little icon in my firefox tab I see it anticlockwise while seeing the big one onscreen as clockwise...

...okay, this is weird. The first time I looked at it, it was definitely anticlockwise. Then I looked at it again and it was clockwise. When I looked at it a third time, it was still clockwise - but when I focused on the feet for a moment, it changed direction.

That's very intriguing and is weirding the fuck outta me.

it's bizarre huh?

Completely anti-clockwise. Tried loading it again n again (much like trying to train myself to be lefthanded while in school), and nope!

I swear that must be a gif that swaps... just has to be... cannot figure any way this illusion works...

one then t'other... with no control over what I see.

no wait... I can make it switch now.

you have broken my brain, please send a replacement asap.

Definately clockwise and nothing (not even the dialling) changes it.
